Condensing Boilers

A condensing boiler is a modern, efficient way to heat water for your central heating and hot water system.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, replacing an old G rated boiler with a new, efficient A Rated condensing boiler, and modern heating controls, could save as much as £300 per year (Source: EST).

While condensing boilers can be initially more expensive than non-condensing boilers to buy and install, the efficiency savings achieved can pay back this extra investment in just a few years’ time (depending upon the size of your property).

A condensing gas boiler is about 90% efficient compared with a non-condensing boiler efficiency of around 55%, allowing for a reduction in fuel costs by up to 35%.

How condensing boilers work

The burning mechanism of the boiler is quite complicated - it’s designed to maximise the energy input from the burnt fuel. Simply put, a condensing boiler converts more of the fuel into usable heat by using the residual heat of the water produced during combustion. In traditional boilers this water is released as a waste product.

What type of condensing boiler is right for me?

  1. I live in a bungalow or a flat and have no loft space - you probably need a combi boiler.
  2. I want to convert my loft and use it for a room - a combi boiler would probably be ideal.
  3. I have very limited loft space - again a combi boiler would probably be suitable.
  4. I live house with several people. We need a lot of hot water but don’t want to wait for a hot tank to heat up a condensing combi boiler can provide hot water when and where you want it, but you may have problems with people using the water at the same time.
  5. I have a larger home with 2 or more bathrooms - you would probably need a regular or system condensing boiler.
  6. I live in an area which often has low mains water pressurea regular or system condensing boiler may be best.
  7. I have a conventional central heating system and need a boiler replacement - any type of condensing boiler could be suitable, depending on your particular requirements and your system.

How energy efficient is a condensing boiler?

A modern, condensing boiler is an environmentally sound choice for your household as it uses the fuel far more efficiently than traditional, older boilers. More of the heat generated is used to heat your water, increasing efficiency and reducing cost.

A more efficient condensing boiler costs less to run and maintain through the year. It can run at over 90% efficiency against an older boiler which may be operating at only 60%, wasting 40p in every £1 you spend on heating your home and water.

We only install energy efficient A rated boilers (where technically possible) from the best names in central heating: Baxi, Ideal, Potterton and Worcester Bosch.

A condensing boiler can provide an efficient, reliable, and easy to maintain central heating system.
